Terms of Service

Last updated: July 2026 — working draft for an MVP prototype

1. Agreement to Terms

By using USkim (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service. This is currently a prototype offered for testing purposes, not a finished commercial product.

2. What the Service Does

USkim lets you view AI-generated summaries of public YouTube video comments and ask questions about them through a chat interface. It accesses publicly available comment data via the YouTube Data API and uses a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) to generate summaries and answers.

3. Not Affiliated with YouTube or Google

USkim is an independent, third-party tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube, Google, or Alphabet Inc. All video and comment data displayed originates from YouTube and remains subject to YouTube's own Terms of Service. When you use the "Watch here" feature to play a video directly within USkim, you are interacting with YouTube's own official embedded player, which is separately subject to YouTube's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

3a. Installing USkim

USkim can be installed to your device's home screen as a Progressive Web App (PWA). Installing it does not change these Terms — it remains the same web-based Service, just launched from an icon instead of a browser bookmark. USkim is not distributed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and installing it does not involve either company.

4. AI-Generated Content Is Interpretive, Not Guaranteed Accurate

This is the most important thing to understand about the Service. Summaries, sentiment labels, tone labels, and chat answers are generated by an AI model interpreting comment text. They are not guaranteed to be accurate, complete, or free of error.

The AI may occasionally misrepresent what commenters actually meant, miss context, or generate a summary that doesn't fully reflect the comment section. Do not rely on the Service for decisions where accuracy is critical — the "read the comments" feature exists specifically so you can verify a summary against the real comments.

5. No Warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times — this is an early-stage prototype and may go offline, change, or be discontinued without notice.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, USkim and its creator(s) are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service — including decisions made based on AI-generated summaries or chat answers. Your use of the Service is at your own risk.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to: use the Service to harass, defame, or target any individual based on comments they made publicly on YouTube; attempt to circumvent rate limits or scrape the Service at scale; use the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of YouTube's own Terms of Service; or attempt to reverse-engineer the Service beyond what's permitted by applicable law.

8. Third-Party Services

The Service relies on third-party providers to function, including the YouTube Data API (Google), YouTube's embedded video player (Google) for the optional "Watch here" playback feature, the Anthropic API, and Render and Upstash for hosting and caching. Your use of the Service is also subject to the applicable terms of these providers where relevant. We are not responsible for outages, changes, or issues originating from these third parties.

9. Age Requirement

You must be at least 13 years old to use this Service. If we become aware that the Service has been used to process a video flagged by YouTube as "Made for Kids," we do not process its comments.

10. Changes to the Service and These Terms

Because this is an active prototype, features, availability, and these Terms may change at any time without advance notice. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to the Service, for any user, at any time, particularly in cases of abuse, excessive load on the Service, or violation of these Terms.

This is a working draft for an MVP prototype, not a final legal document. Have this reviewed by a lawyer before wider public launch — particularly the liability language and governing law clause, which have been simplified here.
